For assignment 3, our final project for DES100, we were tasked with creating a physical data representation. We choose to focus on visualising data for lowering water usage, as this is a serious issue. We choose to zoom in on the impact that dairy production has on water scarcity, focusing on the figure of 1020 litres of water being used to produce 1 litre of milk. We visualised this using a ball pit design, with blue balls representing water and white balls representing milk. The ball pit contains just over 10,000 blue balls and only 10 white balls, showing this insane use of water. We choose this idea to prototype as it using gamification to engage children and promote behavior change.
